After successfully qualifying for the group stage of the CAF Champions League for the 2025/26 season, Yanga SC has written a new chapter in Tanzanian football history.
According to official statistics released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the “Wananchi” have climbed to 8th place in the CAF Club Rankings, with a total of 30 points.
This rise marks a major milestone for both the club and the nation, as it is the first time in history that two Tanzanian clubs are ranked among the top 10 clubs in Africa. Yanga SC moved up from 12th to 8th position, a result of their consistent success in continental competitions over the past two years.
Currently, Al Ahly SC of Egypt leads the rankings with 56 points, followed by Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa with 48 points, while Esperance de Tunis from Tunisia completes the top three with 43 points.

For Tanzania, this marks a significant step forward for domestic football. The nation now boasts two clubs in Africa’s top 10 — Simba SC (5th) and Yanga SC (8th) — a clear sign of rapid football growth and increasing competitiveness on the continent.
